Renault KWID – The Gift That I Cannot Forget
When I met my future husband in college, we were just classmates. But in the final year, we became project-mates and started spending a lot of time together in our group. But even then we never realized that our friendship had started growing into something else.
After college, we both went to different cities to pursue our higher education and lost touch briefly. But a chance meeting on social media rekindled our friendship once again. Since then, we have never been out of touch. Eventually, we both came back and got jobs in the same city. This was when the online chats got replaced with a lot of offline meetings.
One day, he finally proposed and I said yes. We both broke the news to our respective parents who were overjoyed with our decision. Since they knew us both from our college days, they knew something was brewing, but were not sure as we were out of touch for some years.
Nevertheless, we announced that we wanted to have a simple court marriage and not the usual lavish great Indian big-fat-wedding! Knowing us, they knew that we both were of simple tastes and agreed to a simple marriage ceremony.
But unknown to us, our parents were working on the background to surprise us with a marriage present, a Renault KWID.
As we stepped out of the Marriage Registrar’s office, my father-in-law handed me a small decorated box. It looked just like a jewellery box. Anticipating a piece of jewellery, I looked at my husband, but he too seemed oblivious to its contents.
While I was opening the box, we reached the parking lot of the Registrar’s office. The moment I opened the box, I was surprised to find a key. Just when I was lifting the key, my husband pulled me over to one side. Surprised, I saw ahead. It was a gift-wrapped Renault KWID!
My father then came forward and said that this was our wedding gift. Since they had agreed to our wish for a simple marriage, they wanted to gift us something useful in our life. I couldn’t hold back my tears and hugged my father.
Being a car enthusiast, my father started explaining to me how the car matched our simple tastes yet was a very refined car. The Renault KWID had an aggressive SUV-like stance that made it stand out from the other cars in the parking lot. The LED DRLs, SUV-styled headlamps, LED lights in tail lamps and tall ground clearance instantly caught our eyes. As we stepped into the car, we were pleasantly surprised to see the spacious dual-tone interiors done aesthetically. Be it the 20.32 cm touchscreen or the LED digital instrument cluster or the powerful AC, the car seemed very roomy and comfortable. As my father opened the boot of the car, I was surprised to see such a spacious boot that had our bags neatly packed for the honeymoon.
More than me, my husband seemed to be all ears to my father while he was explaining the car's features. That instance I knew, our parents have brought in my competitor. I was confident that from now on my husband’s attention would be divided between our Renault KWID and me!
Today after 3 years of a happy marriage, I still feel our parents should have gifted something else but the Renault KWID, because I could have atleast got 100% of my husband’s attention rather than sharing it with the KWID!
