However, there is one segment within the automobile industry that has been firing all cylinders. SUVs have started making their presence felt on Indian roads and they seem to be unstoppable. A report suggests that compared to July 2019, July 2020 has witnessed a whopping 87% growth (28509 vs. 15208 units). It is courtesy of the SUV segment that the overall car segment has clocked some decent numbers in the current fiscal.



But why this sudden love towards SUV?


The answer lies in knowing what happened about 8 years ago. The Renault DUSTER was launched in 2012 and it soon became the pioneer when it came to SUV cars in India. It is not that SUVs did not exist in India before the Renault DUSTER. They were there, but either they were the extremely high priced imported models or they came with off-roading capabilities. The DUSTER became the first car to bridge the gap between usability and price. It was the first SUV that could be driven over urban roads or off-road with ease and comfort. However, what the Renault DUSTER price did was that it opened the SUV experience to the larger chunk of car lovers. The rest as they say is history.
